Crazy Name?  Kinda.  Memorable?  Definitely.


 

Just outside of the Scenic City of Chattanooga, Tennessee is a small waterway called Suck Creek.  It gets its name for the area in which it flows into the Tennessee River.  As boats would pass through the area, the shoals at the mouth of the creek, would "suck" them into the shore and they would beach or capsize.  Thus "Suck Shoals" and "Suck Creek" were given their name.

 


 

The decision to name the company after this landmark was on a whim.  When we decided to enter a chicken wing cookoff in Chattanooga, we had to have a name for our team.  Someone said, how about "Suck Creek Wings"?  We instantly knew that the name would stand out among the other competitors and that, even if we didn't win, they wouldn't forget us.

 

We never intended to make and bottle sauce.  During our first contest, we had several people ask us where our restaurant was or where they could buy the sauce.  What a great compliment that was.  We took it to heart and decided to make a couple gallons of our contest sauce, later called "Original Sauce", for our friends.  Word of mouth got it going and we had to make more and more sauce.

 

About that time, decided to go through all of the legal stuff and get set up as a company.  We got tons of advice and help from good friends and we spent a lot of time ironing out details over cold beers.  Once we were up and running we came up with a spicy barbeque sauce, "Spicy BBQ" that was great on wings and just about everything else we could put it on.  We tested the market by giving away samples and the orders started pouring in.

 

Not long after that, a local restaurant, Market Street Tavern, was opening their doors.  They decided that they would use local foods whenever possible and decided to try our sauce and our cooking method on their wings.  It was a big hit and they have been a customer of ours ever since. 

 

Some of our customers loved the flavor of our "Original" sauce but it was a little too hot for them.  After all, the sauce was designed so that it would have great flavor, but people would be able to feel the heat after 1 single wing, not 5 or 6 like you normally get.  We then created our "Medium Sauce" , which is the same flavor as Original with a little less heat.  In addition, we recently created a "Mild Sauce" which is much more like a standard buffalo wing sauce heat level.  It has the same flavor as the others with very little heat.  It has been a huge success right from the beginning.

 

We have recently created what could be our biggest seller in the future.  Our "WFR" Hot Sauce is a combination of peppers, both ground and fresh, along with the garlic, onion and vinegar.  It was created to be a stand alone, all-purpose hot sauce and it goes great on everything.  What does the "WFR" stand for?  Well, we have our own ideas on that, but we think that it should mean whatever you think it means.
